Wrinkle Treatments

Smooth away frown lines, forehead creases or crow's feet with clinically proven anti-ageing wrinkle treatments. Dr Meyer specializes in achieving a natural look that aims at soliciting the ‘looking well ‘ comment from friends and family.

In just a few days you will look fresher and younger, and the results will last up to 4 months. Prevention is always better than cure. Initially lines only appear with facial expression (dynamic lines) but over time they will become permanent (static lines). The aim of treatment will be to diminish the lines but maintain a natural look.

Botulinum Toxin A (Azzalure®/Botox®/Dysport®,Vistabel®) wrinkle relaxing injections are the most popular non-surgical treatments to rejuvenate the upper part of the face. Botulinum Toxin A has been used to treat millions of patients worldwide. The product is licensed both in the UK and USA. It has been used cosmetically in UK for over 10 years and for medical conditions for over 20 years.

Wrinkle treatments do not require any anaesthetic. An extremely fine needle is used to inject tiny quantities to targeted muscles. The procedure itself takes only takes about 15 minutes, causing mild transitory discomfort. It is rare for patients to request topical anaesthetic which can be used if desired.

What exactly is Azzalure/Botox?

Azzalure/Botox contains a natural purified protein Botulinum Toxin A produced by Clostridium Botulinum bacteria, which induces long-term relaxation of contracted muscles.

What is the recovery time?

You can continue normally with the rest of the day but should avoid lying flat for upto 4 hours.
There are no restrictions against air travel. Makeup can be worn. You will get an aftercare leaflet that will caution against activities as facial massages ,extremes of temperature, vigorous exercise etc.

What about side effects?

Like all medicines,Azzalure can cause side effects, although its uncommon.Any reactions are generally minimal, temporary and typically relate to injection itself.
Very rarely Botulinum toxin may result in muscle weakness away from the injection site. The weakness is transitory and will wear off as the toxin is degraded by the body.

Can anyone have it?

There are very few exceptions and mostly relate to pregnancy and breast feeding. It is therefore important that a qualified clinician prescribes and administers it.

Dermal Filler Treatments

Dermal fillers offer a gentle and safe anti-ageing treatment for long-lasting skin renewal. As well as reducing wrinkles and filling in facial lines, they are also effective in restoring loss of volume to enhance lips and cheekbones. The effect lasts 6 to 9 months. It can be used in conjunction with other aesthetic treatments.

Two of the safest and most effective products, which are supported by significant clinical studies are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Restylane® and Juvederm Ultra. They consist of a soft colourless injectable gel based on stabilised hyaluronic acid - a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps to add volume and hydration. As the levels of hyaluronic acid diminish with age, moisture is lost in our skin. By boosting the skin's supply of hyaluronic acid, these dermal fillers revitalise the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

As each product has different benefits and effects, your doctor will decide which one is right for you based upon your individual requirements. The beauty of dermal fillers is that you can be given as much or as little as you need to achieve a natural, fresh and more youthful appearance.

Restylane Vital Skinboosters are a new range of fillers used only for a hydration effect and fills only very fine lines and wrinkles.
Visit the Restylane website for more information.

Which parts of the body are suitable for dermal fillers?
The areas that can be treated are all areas of the face, neck, decolletage and hands.

How safe is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is made from non-animal products and is genetically engineered to mimic body's own Hyaluronic Acid. It has been used for many years without any serious long-term side effects.

How long does the treatment take?
Dermal fillers take 30-45 minutes depending on the number of lines and wrinkles being treated. Also your clinician will use topical or injectable anaesthetic to make the procedure a more comfortable experience.

Will there be any after-effects?
Sometimes you may have some mild redness, swelling or bruising following dermal fillers, although this usually subsides within a couple of days, and can be covered with make-up.

What can and can't I do after the treatment?
You can carry on with your normal daily activities as any redness can be covered with make-up. It is advisable, however, not to expose the treated area to strong sunlight for two to three days post treatment and to leave the area alone to settle for 48 hours.

What is the risk of allergic reactions?

Because Restylane and Juvéderm both mimic the body's own hyaluronic acid, the risk of allergic reaction is minimised.

Are dermal fillers just for women?

No, they are also very popular amongst men.

Are dermal fillers suitable for every age and skin type?

Dermal fillers do not have an upper or lower age limit (except for children), but if you have very thin skin you will need different treatment from someone with thicker skin. Your doctor will advise you about the best option for you.

How long do the results last?
You will probably want a top-up treatment after 6 to eighteen month depending on the area.

Can dermal fillers be used with other treatments?

Yes, sometimes the best effect is created when they are used with Botulinum Toxin A and Dermaroller.

Lip Treatments

Thinning lips become a common reality as we get older. A safe and effective anti ageing treatment of lip enhancement, using dermal fillers is the most popular. The best way to give lips a fuller smoother effect - and hence a more attractive, youthful appearance - is to restore lost volume and moisture with dermal fillers. These contain the body's own natural material, hyaluronic acid. Lip enhancement is also the most common form of treatment to subtly smooth fine lines around the mouth. As the treatment is  not permanent it gives you flexibility of topping up or changing shape as you may fancy at the time of your subsequent treatment!

There are many different lip enhancement options available, with each method creating slightly different results and benefits. Dr Meyer offers various different products specifically designed for lips. Your treatment will therefore be designed specifically to meet your lip enhancement needs to create the most natural look.

Several small injections of dermal filler are given using a very fine needle. As the lips are a highly sensitive part of the body, anaesthesia is usually recommended before lip enhancement. Topical and injectable anaesthesia similar to that used at the dentist can be employed to make the procedure pain free. Addtionally all the products we use also contain the local anaesthetic lidocaine to help numb the lips.

Following the treatment, it is normal to experience some mild swelling, and on rare occasions some soreness or light bruising but this usually resolves itself after a day or two. It can be reduced by applying a cold compress on the lips for ten minutes immediately after the treatment.

Over time the product will gradually dissolve away naturally, leaving your lips the same as before the treatment. Results will last longer with regular top ups.

What are the after-effects of lip enhancement?

Your lips will be slightly swollen afterwards and there may be bruising on or around the lips. This will mainly settle over the next 12 hours to 24 hrs

How soon can I return to work?
