What is semi-permanent make-up?

Semi-permanent make-up is the placement of hypoallergenic colour pigment into the dermal layer of the skin to give the look of natural, perfectly applied make up.

Semi-permanent make-up is also known as permanent make-up or micropigmentation. It can last for up to 2 years or more depending on factors such as the age of the skin, the amount of time spent in the sun and also the client’s individual skin colour and tone. It is the perfect procedure for women of all ages who want to have beautifully designed eyebrows, stunning defined eyes and gorgeous looking lips 24 hours a day with no effort.

You would benefit from semi-permanent make-up if you have:

• Sparse, non-existent or droopy eyebrows
• Unsymmetrical features
• Thin, pale uneven lips
• Loss of definition due to age
• Sparse lashes
• Poor eyesight
• Watery eyes
• Busy or sporty lifestyles

Frequently asked questions

Creative Aesthetics' passion as make-up artists has given us the patience and attention to detail necessary to create beautiful enhancements for our clients.

How safe is the procedure?
Safety is paramount and only the strictest hygiene and sterilisation standards are followed. Sterile ‘single use’ needle cartridges are opened and disposed of in front of the client at the start and end of each procedure. Only the highest grade of micropigments are used, all of which are made from natural minerals. Due to their safe non toxic, hypo allergenic properties they are even considered beneficial for clients that have intolerances to conventional cosmetics. All procedures conform to the British and European Health and Safety standards.

Will the procedure hurt?
Every precaution is taken to minimise discomfort for the client. To help with this topical anaesthetics are applied before and during the procedure. Some clients say they feel a scratchy sensation and others feel hardly anything at all.

How long does the procedure take?
This can vary according to whichever procedure is being carried out, but generally 2 to 3 hours is allocated for each appointment, allowing plenty of time for consideration of personal preferences regarding shape and colour. The actual procedure time is approximately 1 hour.

How do I prepare for the procedure?
During the consultation an allergy patch test will be carried out by placing a small amount of pigment onto the skin and left for at least 24 hours. This along with the completion of a questionnaire will be able to determine the client’s suitability for the procedure. A pre-procedure sheet given to you during your consultation will give advice on things you should and shouldn’t do before a procedure.

What choice of colour do I have?
Using a variety of basic pigment shades, colours can be blended for each individual in order to compliment, skin tones, hair and eye colour. With careful design, features can be enhanced and defined creating a natural looking appearance.

How will I look after the procedure?
Immediately after and for the first few days the colour will appear approximately 40% darker and some clients may experience slight swelling or redness, but this will subside within 48 hours. Most normal activities can be resumed immediately after procedure.

What is the healing period like?
You will be provided with a healing balm to put over the area for several days after the procedure. Over the next few days the area will flake off and the colour will look lighter.

How long does it last?
This can vary with each individual, dependant on age, skin type and lifestyle. The colour can last between 2-5 years and will gradually get lighter over time. A top up procedure should be carried out every 18 months to 2 years to maintain colour strength. It is also ideal to protect the enhancement with sunscreen or mineral make-up to increase the lifespan of the procedure.
